David McKee leads the Marine Optics and Remote Sensing group at the University of Strathclyde. He is working on new tools to measure and model artificial light at night in the marine environment. Recent highlights include publish annual time series of surface light irradiance signal from a light observatory at Nu Alesund on Svalbard covering the full dynamic range from midnight sun to polar night. His group have also developed a light field model, HEIMDALL, that enables simulation of natural light levels across the full diel cycle, including solar, lunar and stellar components, cloud cover and varying optical water composition.
